Grading scales and grade-point values differ between institutions. Enter grade points exactly as your institution's grading system defines them; this calculator does not assume a maximum scale.

SGPA = sum of (credits × grade points) ÷ total credits. For example, 4 credits at 8 points and 3 credits at 9 points give (32 + 27) ÷ 7 = 8.43. Enter grade points on your own institution's grading scale.

Smart Insights

Generated from the numbers you entered — no guesswork.

  • 59 weighted points ÷ 7 credits = 8.43.
  • Subjects with more credits affect your SGPA more than subjects with fewer credits.

What is the SGPA Calculator?

What the tool does, who it is for and what it cannot tell you.

SGPA (semester grade point average) is a credit-weighted average of your grade points for one semester. Subjects with more credits count more.

Each institution sets its own grading system — which grades map to which points and what the maximum is. Enter the grade points your institution awards.

How does the SGPA Calculator work?

Each step the calculator runs, in plain language.

SGPA Calculator calculation example

Hypothetical example: three subjects — 4 credits at 8 points, 3 credits at 9 points, 2 credits at 7 points.

  1. 1Weighted points4×8 + 3×9 + 2×7 = 32 + 27 + 14 = 73
  2. 2Total credits4 + 3 + 2 = 9
  3. 3SGPA73 ÷ 9 ≈ 8.11

The SGPA is about 8.11.

Important assumptions

What this calculation includes, and what it leaves out.

  • Every subject entered counts toward the SGPA.
  • No institution-specific rules (such as excluding failed or audit subjects) are applied.

Financial tips

Practical guidance to act on your result.

  • Use the credits printed on your grade card or syllabus, not the number of classes.
  • To estimate CGPA from SGPA values, check your institution's rule — many weight each semester by its credits.
