Fuel needed = distance ÷ mileage, and trip cost = fuel needed × fuel price. For example, a 300 km trip in a car that gives 15 km per litre needs 20 litres; at an example price of ₹100 a litre that costs ₹2,000. Enter your own local fuel price — prices change and vary by city.

Smart Insights

Generated from the numbers you entered — no guesswork.

  • 300 km ÷ 15 km = 20 litres; × ₹100 = ₹2,000.
  • Real mileage depends on traffic, speed, load and air-conditioning, so treat this as an estimate.

What is the Fuel Cost Calculator?

What the tool does, who it is for and what it cannot tell you.

A fuel cost calculator estimates how much fuel a trip needs and what it will cost, from the distance, your vehicle's mileage and the fuel price.

CalPaisa does not show or fetch fuel prices. Enter the price at your local pump, because prices change and differ between cities.

How does the Fuel Cost Calculator work?

Each step the calculator runs, in plain language.

  1. 1

Pick the fuel and trip type

Petrol, diesel or CNG; one way or round trip.

  2. 2

    Enter distance and mileage

Use km per litre for petrol and diesel, km per kg for CNG.

  3. 3

    Enter your fuel price

Per litre, or per kg for CNG, from your local pump.

Fuel Cost Calculator formula

The exact maths behind every number on this page.

Fuel needed = Distance ÷ Mileage; Cost = Fuel needed × Price

Distance
Total distance in km (one-way × 2 for a round trip)
Mileage
km per litre (petrol/diesel) or km per kg (CNG)
Price
Your local price per litre or per kg

Fuel Cost Calculator calculation example

Hypothetical example: a 120 km one-way trip, round trip, in a diesel car giving 20 km per litre, at an example price of ₹90 a litre (not a current price).

  1. 1Total distance120 × 2 = 240 km
  2. 2Fuel needed240 ÷ 20 = 12 litres
  3. 3Cost12 × 90 = ₹1,080

The round trip would cost about ₹1,080 in fuel.

Important assumptions

What this calculation includes, and what it leaves out.

  • Mileage stays constant for the whole trip.
  • Fuel prices are not built in; the result uses the price you enter.
  • Tolls, parking and maintenance are not included.

Financial tips

Practical guidance to act on your result.

  • Use your vehicle's real-world mileage rather than the brochure figure for a closer estimate.
  • Add tolls and parking separately — they are not included.
